Friday Shootout -- Celebration

Baranquilla, Colombia, circa 1970's
  1. Patty was right in one of her comments earlier this week that I already posted my celebration pictures -- shots of my daughter, Jean, who has been visiting all week.
  2. Even more, the best celebration shots have not been taken with a camera since mostly I've been too busy celebrating reconnections and living in the moment, usually forgetting to pick up the camera at all.
  3. However, I still had to get up early this morning to post something because I love y'all too much to miss a Friday.
  4. This is probably the most hastily thrown together shoot-out I've done.
  5. Today we take in some more sights of Charleston, have family cookout. Tomorrow we go to Bull's Island nature preserve. Sunday morning, Jean flies back to Boston. I'll catch up on what the rest of you have been posting Sunday afternoon -- or maybe just taking a long nap. I have missed my bloggy friends very much...well, to be honest...I've missed you all very much in momentary breaks during a week that has mostly been too full to miss anything.

And the four photos that follow are scans of old prints that Jean brought with her -- pictures I had taken of her and her older brother, David, when she was a little girl. I had long forgotten these photos and it was a celebration to see them again after 20 years.

  4. Quite a medley, and all of the very best tunes. Put another way, a new meaning to the blunderbuss approach in which every shot finds the spot. A remarkable achievement. Most of us find it difficult to come up with one winner. You throw them in by the handful. More like that, please.

  6. What a great post, Mark! I love that we got to meet "early Jean" as well as "Modern Day Jean!" I love the picture of her with her older brother! So happy that you are having a good week reconnecting. You know, at the end of the day, family is all we have. If we have been lucky enough to have a good one, then our lives are truly blessed. Mark, I think that your life is blessed!

  9. Well, you hooked me with that first photo. I think I see Bagman and Dorothea in there somewhere. Can't quite make them out, but...

All the other photos were perfect (I loved the kite photo, too) But you killed me with the last 4 photos, especially the last one. I don't have enough time to write about what that photo says, but you know. You know.

You have a wonderful 4th, my friend. Hugs to your daughter. Tell her, "Go Red Sox!"

  10. Is Bagman the one in the hat in that first photo? the historic pictures of the children must be heart tugging. Kids are so full of energy and love.

  16. The bubble shots are amazing, but my favorite is for sure the last scanned shot - Jean hollering at the world - 'celebrating'.
