Friday Hometown Shootout - Handmade

I've been buried in grandchildren this week.  But I did find a "handmade hand" -- and since I inherited it from my grandfather, it might be considered a hand-me-down handmade hand.

Joseph Cowell, my grandfather, sculpted this while studying in Paris.
He said he used his own hand as a model.

We keep it on the mantle over the fake (propane) fireplace.  But I take it down often because the surface has a great feel to it.  And sometimes I use it as a paperweight.

Which makes it a well-handled, handy hand-me-down handmade hand.

BUTLER (to Bagman):  "Mark finds more and more ways to embarass us."

BAGMAN (to Butler):  "Yup.  Ya gotta hand it to him."

  1. It is a lovely hand-me-down and when you take down that hand which you do keep in a handy place, I can see that it make you happy.

  6. It almost looks like he is holding a computer mouse. He was ahead of his time.

  8. It is beautiful and was obviously made by a highly talented artist, but I still find it a bit spooky somehow. Been watching too much Harry Potter maybe.

  10. I don't think you could have got many more hand mades out of your beautiful sculpture, but then I feel I could be wrong..

    1. I really like it. Not only is it well sculpted, but, being an artist, it must be very close to what your grandfather's hand looked like. Something very cool about that.

  11. I think this is awesome. Whenever you're missing your grandfather, you can still hold his hand.

  12. Good choice. My first picture for this theme is a hand-made sculpture of the artist's own hands as well; only I wasn't related to him!

  13. I've got to hand it to you -- it's not often you get to embarrass both Baggie and Butler.

  14. You come from a long line of talented people. Sorry I can't do any more "hand" jokes. I think they about covered them. Ha!
Haven't been around in awhile, but out of sight does not mean out of mind.

Hope you have a relaxing Memorial Day. I will be off to shoot the raising of a football length size flag. Will have to get out the old wide angle for that. Too bad you are not here. I could use a...no, not going to say it.

  15. Sculpted by your grandfather while he was in Paris... Nice job! Maybe one day you can tell something more about this grandfather? (Or have I missed a previous post?)
