Poetry Jam - Humorous Poem

I'm not sure I've got much this week.  It's been a busy weekend, culminating in the birth -- a bit premature -- of a granddaughter, Kay, at 4 pounds - healthy but due to stay in Neonatal Intensive Care for 6 weeks.

But prior to all this, I had been working on something -- but all I've got is the initial limerick.

A poet tried stand-up at dark
at a comedy joint in the park.
"Be funny," they said
but he stood as if dead
so they kicked him out cold in the dark.

Okay - since I am now the only adult awake, I need to go feed the two brothers that Kay hasn't met yet.

  1. Like the jingle so far. Congrats on the new gd. With all the new gadgets she will be fine. I saw many a preemie in my practice. You are a good gdad, blessings to your family.

  2. I love limericks, and that's a good one!

Congratulations on your new granddaughter. May she stay healthy and grow fast! :)

  3. yes, many a comic has bombed. I wonder if Jerry Seinfeld ever had such a night? And congrats on the baby Kay... she will be crawling around before you know it.

  4. darn critics...smiles. oy i think we all have been dead on the mic one day or another...congrats and blessings on the new little one!

  5. Love your new granddaughter's name. Your limerick is fun. Sending positive vibes for steady progress for Kay and her release to home soon.

  6. I often liken poets' humour to politicians' humour. Not really funny except to peers. You capture this well.
Just had our first gd, so congratulations and many fun days ahead!

  7. Congratulations, Grandpa! Funny limerick. Can't wait to see pictures of new baby, Kay.

  8. That would be me - frozen on stage (if my history of freezing at piano recitals is any indication). Congrats on the new granddaughter - boy your house really WILL be full when she comes home!

  9. both my premies are the joy of my life!
Dont be so sure. They said my oldest would be in the NICU for 6 weeks and she was out in 6 days! and my youngest came home with me :)
Limricks really are the knock knock jokes of poetry, arent they?
    thanks for contributing!

  10. i'll be he livened up afterward. i get stage freight and can relate, unfortunately:)
    congratulations on your granddaughter.

  11. Congrats! Birthing a poem can hurt at times...

  12. I know the feeling. Great limerick and funny as well.
