The Webmasters are driving me nuts!

Now I panic everytime I start to leave a comment on someone's blog!  Will it be a simple case of asking me if I want to post it as Bagman and Butler or if I want to be anonymous.  Or -- GASP -- will it give me a series of options  to post as my Google Account,WordPress, SomethingID,  or "Name and URL"???  Or something else.

None of these work for me!  I know I have a Google Account but everytime I try to post a comment through it, it tells me I don't have access to my account.  Although I do.  I guess just not to make comments.   Sometimes, if I really want to leave a comment, I go back and copy my URL and use that -- trying to remember that I need to make sure I identify who I am.   Sometimes I just give up and don't leave a comment.

Worst of all -- I just realized that my own blog does that to people trying to comment to me!  I didn't do that!   I want the old way back!  And I can't figure out how to change it.

Then I go to my Yahoo mail and there are requests for me to be Linked In or befriended on Facebook, which I still don't understand.  And somehow, Facebook has now invaded my Blackberry -- (Yes, I have a Blackberry despite the fact I'd rather have my old Droid back) but in any case, it beeps constantly now with email messages, most of which connect me to Facebook instead of Yahoo mail.

How did that happen?

I have managed to figure out how to disable three different programs that automatically tell the world that I'm available to chat the moment I turn on my computer.

Call me antisocial but while I actually like most people I meet, I don't really want to talk to everybody all the time.   Particularly since most chats and tweets are like elevator conversations:  "Hi.  How about the weather these days?  Check out my Facebook page.  I'm doing well, how are you?  Blah blah blah."

And no, I don't want to monetize my blog.

  1. Oh Mark, that sounds rather overwhelming (in a negative way)! So far, I have managed to stay clear of FaceBook and LinkedIn; I do have an account on XING, though, and I use that quite a lot for business.
What you describe happening when you try to comment on someone's blog keeps happening; Kay (Georgia Girl with an English Heart) had the same trouble, but it seems the issue decided to go away on its own. For now...!
Hopefully, in a few days, your comment options will be back to normal as well.

  2. Testing. one two, three. I had a Facebook, but when I realized there was really no privacy, despite what they say, I closed that baby down. LinkedIn, I never messed with. I figure if someone wants to find me, it is easy to do a search. I don't need strangers invading my home. Now, I do have an IPhone 4, and so far, it seems pretty safe, but my husband has the 4S, and he wants to divorce me and marry Siri. She is definitely cool. Last night I ask her to tell me a joke. Her response, "Two Iphones went into a bar..." I just have to upgrade, but who knows? She may me start watching me and broadcasting me on Youtube. She may be more dangerous than Hal, who, when you inquire about him, upsets her.

  4. I am on FB as the 'real' me whatever that is. I keep my friends list compact and ignore friend requests from folks that I don't really know well enough to make elevator talk. I use it to keep up with my son, although his life has become busier and he posts less. I have one of those fancy razor phones...remember those? Maybe that was before your time, son. As for Blogger, it can be a bit of pain sometimes.

  6. Life used to be so simple! Then someone invented the penny post and by the '50s you could get a letter to New Zealand in seven weeks (if you paid for the fast service!). Now you can get a message anywhere instantly PROVIDED that luck is on your side.

  7. Amen! I like to go "invisible" on Facebook or when I'm reading my email. I'm not a good enough multitasker to instant message with with people while I'm taking care of other things on the computer.

  8. I hear you. I just try to KISS. As GB said sometimes it takes a lot of luck.

  9. Wow! What browser are you using? I have no issues posting, but then I always use my Google account. Blogger (or blogspot) is owned by Google, you know.

  10. I don't know what's happening, but as long as I'm logged in as "me" I can leave comments for those blogs that I'm following (yours included). The "Webmaster" (LOL, by the way)--knows a lot more about people than we realize. It's downright spooky.

  11. LOL...you sound like me. So put the blog back to the old way....yes, there's a help page that will guide you, check that you don't want messages from Facebook, and call your sponsor. LOL

  12. I have another blog friend who had the same problem (Peter Goulding). One of his commenters gave him instructions that apparently worked - you can read them here: http://stammeringpoet.blogspot.com/2011/10/technology-1-stammering-poet-0.html.

I can't comment when I use internet explorer, but have no trouble when I use Google Chrome...

  13. It's hit or miss for me when posting comments. So far, your blog hasn't given me any problems. My mothers blog is a pita and I never know if it's going to let me post or not.

  14. I began having problems about 6 months ago when attempting to make comments on the FSO. If I am signed into 'Flowers' about half the time I can comment and 'ginger v' is and option - the other 50% I have to put in 'flowers' url and then my name pops out.... but not my photo - so is not really connecting to blogspot. I don't know how 'flowers' works for everyone, no one has complained and I don't recieve many comments. But I suppose if it works for you you don't complain and if it doesn't you can't leave a complaint anyway. (lol) I thought it has to do with have the 'new' blogspot versus the 'old' (option under post configs) I will post this comment using the name/url option.
I don't have a fancy phone / but I no longer get emailed on each comment in facebook either. go to your account / notifications and say NO to everyone of them.....
