Hooray for the new paperless society

Computers were going to make us all paperless.   I've been blogging away, paperlessly for just over a year.   But...

Well, just in case...in case someone in the future might want to read what has turned out to be a pretty weird but autobiographical journal of 2009...

I went ahead and pasted, copied, downloaded and printed it...

Dang!  A little over two reams of paper later...

Maybe I should blog alot less this year.

Or maybe I should just print next years journal in 6 point type.

  1. I work in a *cough* paperless office. Since we became paperless, our paper expenses have gone way up. I won't bore you with the details, but it's unbelievable.

I don't have a printer at home, but I like the idea of printing out the blog. Who knows? Maybe one day someone will want to publish it, à la Julie Powell in Julie and Julia. And then you will be famous. And rich. ;-)

  2. Oh my!! That accounts for how many posts in 2009? I saw a website that will do this for you in the form of a book ... I don't know the price (it must vary with size) but seeing the size of your printed blog, I imagine it would be a pretty penny.

  3. I just stay paperless. I only use paper when someone else makes me...

  5. I may be sorry I had mine printed but I love it. I have stacks of journals I had written for years. None of the kids will probably read those. I think they will read the ones I had printed.

  7. That's a lot of paper--burning to CD may save you some trouble next time!

All my students are now required to send their work via email which makes them paperless!

  10. No, you should blog plenty more, just don't print it all out! You can save it all elsewhere on line or on disk if you're worried about Blogspot packing up.

  11. I commend you for your industry. I could not have considered for one moment doing all that. We would have had paperless offices by now if no one had invented the dang printer! It's a case of got one gotta use it. Without it we still have been getting proper manuals when we buy electronic gadgets - and not only they - instead of print-your-own, flat-packed flaming discs!

  12. Excellent idea Mark. I love holding a book in my hand and reading its contents.
Bagman and Butler will be very pleased.
    Don't stop blogging!

  13. I like your idea - for you - except to me, how many of my words are really important. I am at 360+/- entries, I could seperate the travel dialog from the personal notes, end up with 3 volumes then what? Seems though that putting them on CD would be better, then you can open them, edit, spellcheck, rearrange the order, and keep in your 'future book'file.
    back it up of course.....
another thought provoking post mr Mark

  14. I printed out my last blog on 'building my house' before I deleted it. It only came to about an inch of paper. Printing out my other two blogs would be horrendous! The cost of ink alone would dampen my ego, but I have often wondered how I could preserve some of this stuff for posterity.

  15. I like that idea Mark. The trouble with CDs are that future technology will make them obsolete (remember the floppy disc) but words on paper will live forever, or a couple of hundred years anyway.

  16. I use other peoples paper/copies for my food and poetry note pads. Not sure what I will do when it comes time to publish my book. I do feel there is a great new product my mom in law got- The Kindle, but I do like a good book in my hands. Did you say 'six' point? I just got new glasses and I cannot imagine I could even read that, or loose my place over and over!
